Sheffield was once very much an industrial town built around the steel industry, but life has very much changed and it is now a good city to visit for an exciting restaurant, bar and club scene. Attractions in the city range from historical and cultural, but also with tremendous sporting events such as a world class ice hockey team and weekly Premiership football. A huge range of takeaway restaurants are found both in the city and the outskirts, with Indian food being the most popular.
The city centre has good shopping, but not as diverse as some of the other major UK cities. Italian food is also prevalent with many chains having a presence, but also some independents such as Piccolino offer traditional Italian, and is a good place to go after a visit to the Winter Garden or the Millenium Museum.
